Diagnosis and Treatment Plan

Your appointment consists of three steps:

  • Step 1: We will review your medical history and perform a visual exam of the problem area. We do a quick screening of the superficial veins of the leg. This is not charged to insurance unless you proceed with a consultation that day.
  • Step 2: We will diagnose your vein issues and discuss expected outcomes with you.
  • Step 3: A physician will perform a visual exam and talk over the next course of action with you. If it is determined that your case is medical in nature, we will proceed with a consult that consists of mapping and drawing your veins to prove venous insufficiency and submitting the costs to your insurance company. If the problems are cosmetic, we will discuss costs and treatment options with you.

Once you decide to move forward with treatment, we will work around your schedule to perform the procedures. Each outpatient procedure is different, but you should expect to return to normal activities in no time with minimal discomfort. Your specific treatment expectations and after-care will be discussed in detail before your appointment. Our professional and friendly staff is here to answer all your questions and make your time with us comfortable.

Additional Procedure Information:

Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation (EVRF): This treatment uses heat delivered through a catheter to close off damaged veins from the inside. It is often the first treatment used after conservative therapy.
Varithena: This is an injectable foam that treats hard-to-reach or irregularly shaped veins. The foam fills the vein and causes it to collapse.
VenaSeal: VenaSeal is a medical-grade adhesive that seals damaged veins shut. It requires fewer injections and has simple post-treatment instructions.
Sclerotherapy: We inject a chemical solution directly into the problem vein to irritate and close the vein. It can be used for problem veins causing symptoms or for cosmetic veins.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy: This procedure physically removes large veins through a tiny opening in the skin. Our ambulatory phlebectomies are incision-free.

Pre-Procedure Instructions

No matter which vein treatment you are scheduled for, we will provide you with some preparatory steps to help get you ready for your appointment. These may include:

  • Having your compression stockings ready: Most procedures require the use of prescription-grade compression stockings with at least 20-30mmHg graduated compression, which we will give you a prescription for before your appointment.
  • Stay hydrated: We recommend drinking a full 64oz the day before your treatment, and 32oz the day of.
  • Eat before you arrive: You do not need to fast for our vein treatments. We would rather you have a solid meal and be comfortable during your appointment.
  • Keep your legs lotion-free: Lotion can interfere with ultrasound imaging and bandaging.
  • Dress for comfort: Make sure your clothing is loose and bring a pair of comfortable walking shoes since movement is part of your immediate recovery.
  • Disclose medications: Let us know all of the medications you are taking in case any adjustments are needed.
  • Plan ahead for travel restrictions: Some treatments require restrictions on air travel immediately after the procedure. Plan to avoid trips for at least one week after your appointment.

Affordable Vein Care

During your appointment, Physicians Vein Clinics specialists will help you determine whether insurance is likely to cover the costs of the treatment. In case your vein treatment isn’t covered, we will walk you through all of the financing options. See which insurances we accept here. Affordable vein care at Physicians Vein Clinics doesn’t end after your first appointment, rather this is just the beginning. Our physicians will determine if the patient has a vein problem and the best and most cost-effective treatment plan.

At Physicians Vein Clinics, all of our procedures are completed in the clinic setting under local anesthesia. Treatment in the clinic can save thousands of dollars compared to having the same procedure completed at a hospital. If a patient chooses to go to a hospital to get similar vein procedures, the patient and insurance company would have to pay significantly higher cost for the surgery suite, anesthesia, and an anesthesiologist. Since Physicians Vein Clinics is a private practice, each patient is treated as an individual. We look at the patient’s condition, insurance, and end goals to make a customized treatment plan that leaves patients satisfied. At Physicians Vein Clinics, we put the patient first.

FAQs About Our Vein Treatments

Do I need a vein screening?

A vein screening can help determine whether your vein concerns are cosmetic or related to an underlying medical condition. This is a free service that we offer. However, not every patient needs one. If your symptoms are already well-defined, you can skip the screening and move on to a consultation and diagnosis, and save yourself an appointment.

Will my insurance cover vein treatment?

Many vein treatments are covered by insurance when they’re deemed medically necessary. Coverage varies by plan and often depends on factors like your diagnosis and whether you’ve completed a 6-12 week trial of conservative therapy first. We work with most major insurance providers and will help verify your benefits before treatment, so there are no surprises.

Can I drive myself home after treatment?

All of our treatments are minimally invasive and do not involve general anesthesia. You are welcome to drive yourself home after your appointment and go back to work.

Will I need to wear compression stockings after my treatment?

In most cases, compression stockings are important for your recovery after a vein treatment. They support healthy blood flow and keep the swelling down. How long you will wear them depends on the type of treatment you receive. We will give you specific instructions so you know what to expect.
