Q & A with the Docs: Pregnancy + Vulvar Varicosities
Dr. Hansen is answering our questions this week including questions about pregnancy and venous insufficiency along with vulvar varicosities.
Q: Is it OK to get pregnant if I have venous insufficiency?
A: Absolutely, but you should immediately begin wearing medical grade graduated compression stockings as soon as you find out you are pregnant. It is likely that your venous insufficiency will worsen during your pregnancy and I would recommend that you follow up with one of the vein specialists at Physicians Vein Clinics after you give birth.
Q: I have vulvar varicosities. What can be done about them?
A: You will need to be evaluated by a vein specialist. One of our physicians will evaluate you for underlying vein issues and the possibility of pelvic congestion syndrome. Vulvar veins can be treated in the outpatient setting.
These questions were answered by our board-certified physician, Dr. Hansen, MD, DABVLM, RPhS. You can find Dr. Hansen in our Sioux Falls, SD; Watertown, SD; and Moorhead, MN vein clinics.
