What Vein Conditions Do We Treat in Watertown?

  • Varicose Veins: Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins, usually on the legs. They cause symptoms like aching, heaviness, and visible bulging under the skin. They form when valves inside the veins stop working properly and allow blood to pool.
  • Spider Veins: These are small, thread-like veins that are close to the skin’s surface. They can develop in web-like clusters and are usually found on the legs, sometimes accompanied by a mild burning or tingling sensation.
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): Deep vein thrombosis is a blood clot that forms in a deep vein, usually in the leg. DVT can cause swelling, pain, and warmth in the affected area and may become serious if the clot travels to the lungs.

Our Vein Treatments in Watertown, SD

Conservative Therapy

You may have milder symptoms or be interested in preventing additional vein problems after treating varicose or spider veins. In these cases, we may recommend conservative treatments. We will recommend lifestyle changes such as moving and changing positions throughout the day, elevating your legs, and wearing compression stockings.

Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation (EVRF)

We can also use radiofrequency energy to close off veins from the inside. We guide a narrow catheter into the vein using ultrasound technology to guide us, and then activate the radiofrequency energy. This technology creates enough heat to damage and seal the vein.

VenaSeal

VenaSeal™ treats varicose veins using a medical adhesive instead of heat, reducing discomfort and minimizing bruising. After numbing the small access site, we guide a catheter into the diseased vein using ultrasound and deliver the adhesive to seal the vein walls. Compression stockings are often not needed after this treatment, and clinical studies show a 94.6% closure rate at five years.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Ambulatory phlebectomy is a minimally invasive treatment used to remove bulging varicose veins that lie just beneath the skin’s surface. Using tiny incisions and a small surgical hook, we extract the affected veins without stitches or sedation. The procedure is done at our Watertown clinic under local anesthetic and typically takes under an hour.

Varithena

Varithena® is a prescription microfoam used to treat varicose veins linked to a malfunction in one of the main veins running from the foot to the thigh. When this vein or its branches fail to circulate blood properly, it can lead to visible bulging and leg discomfort. The foam fills the faulty vein, displaces the blood, and causes the vein walls to collapse.

Sclerotherapy

Some veins that are smaller may be treated with sclerotherapy. This treatment involves an injection of a solution that irritates the lining of the vein and causes it to close. With this treatment, we can treat multiple veins during a single visit. Within several weeks, the treated veins will fade and leave the legs clearer and healthier.
