Conservative Therapy

Conservative therapies refer to non-invasive treatment methods used to help manage symptoms from vein conditions. These therapies improve circulation and ease issues like leg pain and swelling. Insurance providers sometimes ask patients to try conservative therapies for a period of time before approving coverage for additional vein treatments. Options may include compression stockings, regular movement, leg elevation and lifestyle adjustments.

Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation (EVRF)

Some veins are best treated using heat. Endovenous radiofrequency ablation (EVRF) is performed with a small catheter that emits heat and helps close veins affected by poor blood flow. This treatment has replaced older vein stripping methods and is more comfortable with shorter downtime. You may have some bruising or tenderness after your treatment, but you can go back to your usual activities once you leave our office.

VenaSeal

If you are interested in a non-thermal treatment, we may suggest VenaSeal. A medical adhesive is used in the affected area to close off the vein and force blood into a different route. In addition to being performed without heat, VenaSeal also does not require tumescent anesthesia. While all vein treatments carry some risk of bruising, this side effect can be milder with VenaSeal than with older methods.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Ambulatory phlebectomy is used when direct removal of varicose veins is preferred. It is suitable for bulging veins just under the surface of the skin. We make small access points and remove the veins, which collapse easily during removal. The openings are often small enough that stitches are not required. We can complete this procedure in under an hour, and patients can often go back to normal routines on the same day.

Varithena

Varithena is a non-surgical vein treatment used to address abnormal veins caused by varicose vein disease. Using ultrasound guidance, we deliver a prescription microfoam into the vein, where it irritates and collapses it. Blood naturally redirects to nearby veins, and circulation is improved. This treatment is performed in an office setting and does not require general anesthesia. We will encourage you to walk soon after your treatment and fit you with compression stockings to speed up your recovery.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment used to address varicose veins and spider veins by closing abnormal surface veins. A small amount of an FDA-approved solution is injected into the vein, causing it to collapse and gradually fade. This treatment is best for smaller vessels, usually spider veins and smaller varicose veins. Sessions are completed in an office setting without general anesthesia, and have a high closure rate of 80% for every treatment. We may have you come in for additional treatments, depending on your results.
