Q & A with the Docs: Varicose Veins Near Bikini Line + Blood Clots and Compression Stockings

Dr. Chester answers two questions this week surrounding varicose veins near your bikini line and if it is safe to wear compression stockings if you have blood clots in both legs.

Q: I have varicose veins near my bikini line. Can these be treated?

A: Varicose veins near the bikini line can usually be treated with sclerotherapy and sometimes may require a phlebectomy if they are large. Both procedures are usually done in 30 minutes or less with the patient awake and are considered “walk-in, walk-out”.  Bikini line varicose veins usually arise from leg veins, but sometimes occur due to veins in the pelvis that are not functioning properly. Your vein specialist, such as those at Physicians Vein Clinics, can help you with determining the cause as well as proper treatment options.

Q: I have had blood clots in both legs, is it safe to wear compression stockings?

A: Leg blood clots are fairly common and can occur in many different veins. Some leg blood colts are more dangerous depending on their location and size and the treatments can vary, but oftentimes includes compression stockings. Someone with a current venous leg clot or a history of leg clots would benefit from seeing a vein specialist like those at Physicians Vein Clinics and discussing treatment options.
